Crumbling Foundation Legislative Update

Capital Region of Governments

Dear Willington Residents:

Willington is a member of the Capitol Region of Governments (CRCOG) and as First Selectman, I have been very active with the Ad-Hoc Committee on Crumbling Foundations over the last two years. There have been several ups and downs and roadblocks to overcome, and it is wonderful to finally see the start of a solution that will allow homeowners to reinvest in our town. Please join me in not only thanking the legislature for passing this promising legislation, but also in thanking CRCOG for its regional approach and leadership through this tumultuous time.

I agree with my colleagues in the other affected towns that while not perfect, adoption of this legislation is a step in the right direction for affected homeowners, affected towns and ultimately all of Connecticut. However, we have to take care to realize that final adoption of the state budget will not be the end, but just the beginning of years of work rebuilding our homes and communities.

It is critical that Willington stay involved with CRCOG, continue to stay focused on this issue and continue to push our legislators to do the same. It will take a big commitment, (especially by whoever is elected as the next First Selectman), but the future of our town depends on it.

Sincerely,
Christina Mailhos
