Frequently Asked Questions:

What if I don’t receive a tax bill?

Connecticut General Statutes (CGS) Section 12-130 states “…failure to receive any tax bill shall not invalidate the tax…”. Therefore you are not exempt from payment of all tax and interest charges. If you own a vehicle or real estate on October 1st of any given year, you should expect a tax bill the following July.  If you do not receive a bill for which you are responsible, call the Tax Collector’s Office at (860) 487-3111 and request a copy.

  • Please make sure your payment is done 24 hours before a release is needed if paying online. Please Note: If an immediate release is needed, payment will need to be made in person by cash. As always, we recommend you pay taxes by their due date to avoid any problems or additional fees.
  • If you were previously escrowed and never received your tax bill please contact the Tax Office ASAP. We may not have gotten notice from your bank that the mortgage has been paid off.
  • If you have recently relocated and updated your address. Please be sure to notify both your local USPS office and the Tax Office. The same applies when buying a selling vehicles. To avoid any unnecessary tax liabilities, kindly inform us of any transactions. Frequently, we do not receive updated records until after bills are due.
