Willington Scholarship Foundation
The WSFDFS’s sole purpose is to raise funds to provide scholarship assistance to Willington, CT residents who are graduating high school seniors. The support is provided to help those who intend to pursue post-secondary education at accredited institutions - usually a college, university or technical school.
Most scholarships are one-year merit awards, based solely on academic data (blind as to applicants' names). However, in 2016 and again in 2017, we were also able to offer one-year awards based on financial need (with a B average or above) to high school graduates.
We also give some renewable awards based on financial need (with a B average or above) to a first-year continuing college student to support their final three years of study.
WSFDFS has been in existence since 1995 as an offshoot of our local PTA, creating a separate foundation to be a local chapter of Scholarship America, and use its resources and benefits. Our Board has grown over the years, as has the amount of funds raised and the value of scholarships awarded. Our activities include an annual solicitation of donations mailed to the town-wide community, a Spaghetti Dinner, a Silent Auction at the Willington Flea Market and participation in other fund-raising programs.
As testimony to our success, the Willington Scholarship Foundation Dollars for Scholars was named the National 2017 Affiliate of the Year by our parent organization Scholarship America. This prestigious award speaks to our success in implementing scholarship programs that support the educational dreams of our young people.
