First Selectman Mailhos called the meeting to order at 12:00 P.M.  with Selectmen Blessington.    Selectman Kowalyshyn was absent.

 Award Daleville School Bridge Contract

First Selectman Mailhos stated that the Town Engineer and Public Works’ Director have both recommended awarding the contract to the lowest bidder, Sadow Excavation, Inc. At the time of the bid opening, there was not enough money in the line to cover the cost of the project and the Selectmen were not able to award at the June 19th meeting.   She then read a memo from a recent Board of Finance meeting where they appropriated the funds.  In May, 2015, the Board of Finance created a line item to support this project using left over money from the Polster Road Bridge construction project (which came in under budget).    The amount left over from the Polster Road Bridge was $129,007.   So far, $13,000 has been encumbered in Engineering fees, leaving a balance of $115,401; which is not enough to cover the lowest bid.   Funding was swept from 7 line items in the General Fund and transferred to the Capital Projects in the amount of $55,183.

The Board of Finance approved the transfer on June 22, 2017.

First Selectman Mailhos then recapped the bids received:

Sadow Excavation, Inc.          $165,585

Trademark Contractors, LLC              $319,450

Baier Construction Co, Inc.             $598,400

Frank Capasso & Sons, Inc.              $881,200

First Selectman Mailhos moved to award the Daleville School Road Bridge Contract to Sadow Excavation per their bid of $165,585.

Selectman Blessington seconded the motion.

First Selectman Mailhos stated that she is hopeful the contract signing can be held next week so the contractor will be able to order the materials as the work will need to be done in August/September.

Selectman Blessington reminisced about the time when a truck had a tire poke through the original wooden bridge when he was 8 years old, and his father, whom was a Selectman at the time, had reported to the scene.
