Board of Assessment Appeals

The Board of Assessment Appeals is an official municipal agency. It is designed to serve as an appeal body for taxpayers who believe that town or city assessors erred in the valuation of their properties or erroneously denied them exemptions. It is a review body that serves independently of assessors.

The board consists of three (3) members each of whom is elected for a term of four years. The terms are staggered and elections are held every two years for members whose terms are expiring.

The Board holds meetings in March or April and September.  All property type appeals are heard at the March or April meeting (real estate, personal property, motor vehicles).  The September meeting is only for Motor Vehicle appeals.
